Will Smith (IMDB) |
When my family is loud, I just turn on my phone and go to Netflix and watch a movie. I see the movie and if there is a main antagonist, it makes me happy when the good guys solve the problem. For example, in Star Wars, free people are under the rule of an oppressive empire. At the end, the main female and male heroes are orphans, the girls married to a wanted criminal smuggler and she's the leader of a new world. The boy loses a hand, his father and a 900 year old friend. My point is that movies help me solve problems, inspire me, but most of all I have to go give credit to the actors.
A reason Will Smith is a hero is because he cares. He grew up with 3 siblings, his older sisters and his younger twins Harry and Ellen. He grew up in an American-Jewish neighborhood in Philly, and was born on Sept 25 1968, three years after the civil rights movement had begun. He went to a private Catholic elementary school. His parents separated in 1981, but officially divorced in 2000. He started off as an MC to the radio duet "DJ Jazzy Jeff", a childhood friend and the "Fresh Prince". Smith was close with his son and together they starred in "After Earth" and "The pursuit of Happyness" . In 2007 Smith donated $1.3 million dollars to charities. $450,000 went to Christian Ministries, $122,500 went to 3 Scientology organizations and the rest to a mosque, Christian schools and churches and the Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Center. In 2016, he won the MTV Generation award, which shows his dedication and caring. I think Will Smith is a hero because he cares about his family, his religion, and the people he entertains.

Will Smith receiving the Generation Award (IMDB ()) |
My #2nd reason that Will Smith is a hero is because he is a good actor and he inspired me to act. I think to prove Will Smith is a good actor is by reading his achievements. In 2007 Newsweek called him "The most powerful actor in Hollywood". He has also been nominated for 5 Golden Globes, 2 Academy Awards, and he's won 4 Grammys. In the 80's he gained modest fame as the rapper the "Fresh Prince". In the 90's he was much more popular when he starred in the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". He is actually the only actor to have eight consecutive films that have earned over $100 million in the domestic box office, 11 consecutive films that earned over $150 million in the international box office, and eight of his films being #1 in the domestic box office. In 2014 all of his films grossed over $6.6 billion. In 2007 Smith left an imprint of his hands and feet at "Grauman's Chinese Theater". In 2016 he became the 11th actor to receive the "Generation Award along with Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler, Reese Witherspoon, and Johnny Depp. These are all reasons about why Will Smith is a hero.

Right: Sheree Zampino Left:Will Smith (IMDB ()) |
I would like to touch on my reasons about why Will Smith is a hero. He is brave. He lived through Civil Rights, he almost went bankrupt, he got divorced, and his biggest challenge was becoming who he is in the entertainment business. Will Smith was born September 25 1968, three years after the civil rights movement had begun in 1965. Although Smith has not talked about it, I am sure him being a young African-American child he must have been the target of at least a little racism. In 1988 and 1989, Smith spent money very freely and underpaid his income taxes. In 1990 the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) announced a $2.8 million tax debt against him and took many of his possessions and garnished his income. Then NBC signed him on to the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". In 1999 Smith made a mistake by turning down the role of Neo from the "Matrix". In favor of a role in "The Wild Wild West". Smith said he harbors no regret and that Keanu Reeves performance was better. Although in interviews about the "Wild Wild West" he says he made a mistake. After he married Sheree Zampino in 1992 and divorced in 1995 after they had Trey Smith, he married Jada Pinkett Smith who he had Christopher Smith and Willow Smith. This is my last reason that Will Smith is a hero.
In conclusion, Will Smith is my hero because he cares, he's brave and a good actor.
