A hero to me is someone who always tries their best at whatever they do. A hero must be nice to others, and always willing to help others out. A hero should be brave, and not give up when he/she loses. A hero should be able to carry others on his back and overcome the biggest challenges in life. By the end of this essay I hope you know why I would like to follow in Wes Welker's footsteps.

Wes Welker was born May 1st, 1981 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He had a hard time as as kid because, he was so small and didn't exactly have the richest parents. He didn't know his dad very well, because he barely came around, and his parents divorced when he was a child. No one in his family ever went anywhere great so a chance for him to be successful was very slim.

Although, his chances of becoming someone great was slim the impossible for him was soon to come. Welker had led his team to the 2A State Championship. They ended up winning the game with Welker scoring the winning touchdown. The signing period came around, and no one big really wanted him. Welker's worst experience was not getting drafted or picked up by any team. He says,"I was thinking I'd get a scholarship somewhere big. When it didn't happen on signing day I was pretty hurt by it. In the end I kept trying, never gave up and made it where I always knew I could." Finally, Wes Welker walked on to Texas Tech and was signed.

Although, he was signed to Texas Tech University he didn't have the best years in college. He wasn't the top receiver and didn't have any records until his final year at Texas Tech. After finishing college he wanted to continue playing at a higher level. Unfortunately he was undrafted to the NFL. But knowing Wes Welker he would not give up. He walked on once again and the Miami Dolphins signed him. He was there playing for a few years and then was traded to the New England Patriots where his dream began to open up. Welker became a top wide receiver in the league and now holds the record for most all time purpose yards. Also has been pro bowl the past three seasons for the patriots. Wes Welker an undrafted guy in college and NFl is the one of the most successful wide receivers. Wes Welker says "I understand that this is my job and I'm taking it very seriously. I love the game, I love the fans, and I love being the best leader that i can be.

As you can see Wes Welker matches my description of a hero. When there was no chance for him to be successful, he never gave up and achieved his life goal. He was a small underrated, undrafted that kept trying playing with people twice his size. He loves being a leader and he plays the game with dedication. Hes loves his job, he loves what he does and not for the money. He's a very respectful man, in and out of his job. He is my motivation towards football. I will work hard to achieve my goal which almost is exactly like Wes Welker was when he was young. Following in his footsteps will not be easy, but i will never give up.
