"The Big Dipper" |
My hero is Wilt Chamberlain. He was the one who inspired me to play basketball. He is known as one of the best basketball players in the NBA. In 1967-1968 he averaged fifty-four points per game and became the first and only center in league history to lead the league in assists.
1968-1973 Wilt Chamberlain was playing for the Lakers. He also got a contract of two hundred fifty thousand dollars. He led the Lakers through thirty three straight games. Nobody could stop him. This was because of his height, He had nicknames like Wilt the Stilt, Goliath, and his favorite, The Big Dipper.
Wilt Chamberlain was one of the fifty greatest players in the NBA history. He had received the scoring award in 1960-1966. He had also received the Highest Scoring Rookie award. Did you know that Wilt Chamberlain scored four thousand points in a season? In his whole career he scored thirty one thousand four hundred nineteen points, twenty three thousand nine hundred twenty four rebounds, and four thousand six hundred forty three assists.
Wilt Chamberlain was also known as one of the strongest athletes to ever live. After one of the games that they won Wilt was so excited that he threw one of his teammates in the air and caught him like a doll. Muhammad Ali noticed him and gave Wilt Chamberlain a chance to fight him. He turned down this offer.
This is how Wilt Chamberlain inspired me to play basketball. I play recreation ball and he played the same position as me and had the same number as me. But sadly he died on October 12, 1999 at age sixty three in Bel Air, California United States.
