Wayne Douglas Gretzky was born on January 26, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario. His career first got started in 1978 when he signed with the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA, for a short amount of time until being traded to the Edmonton Oilers. He established many records and led the team to four Stanley Cups. He was traded to the Los Angeles Kings and he led them to the 1993 Stanley Cup finals. He ended his career with the New York Rangers and nine Hart Trophies as MVP, ten Art Ross trophies for most points in a season, five Lester B. Pearson Awards, and many more acknowledgments.

He Retired in 1999 and was immediately placed into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He became the Executive Director and a role model of the Canadian National Mens' Hockey Team during 2002 Olympics where Canada won a Gold medal. Wayne Gretzky still holds many of the records that were established during the peak of his career and most of them likely will remain for a very long time.

Wayne Gretzky changed the lives of many players on his team and many that he has been coaching, who were ecstatic to have a legend in their presence. Wayne Gretzky inspired many people to play the game of hockey and become active in the hockey community. That is the reason that I choose him to be my hero.
