Wayne Gretzky is my hero simply because he is by far the greatest hockey player to have ever stepped on the ice. He is also the smartest. He knows exactly where every player is out there at an given time without even looking to see where they are at, he is that good. Wayne has helped his team win championships. He has donated money to all kinds of charities and schools and changed the way most people look at the sport of hockey today! In my opion he was one of the best athletes ever.

Wayne Gretzky was born on January 26, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He grew up with four siblings, three brothers and one sister. His brothers were Keith, Glenn, and Brett and his sister Kim. His father, Walter was his coach for most of his youth. Later in life, Walter suffered a stroke and didn't remember some of his son's accomplishments. His mother Phyllis supported Wayne through hockey and school. Wayne went to school at Ross Sheperd high school. Most of the kids Wayne played hockey with were jealous and mad that he was better than they were.

Wayne ended up playing for four NHL teams, the Edmonton Oilers, St. Lous Blues, L.A. Kings, and the New York Rangers. in that time period that he played in the NHL, he obtained: most points in one season, most goals in a season and career, most assists in a season and career, and he has won thirty-two trophies during his time in the NHL.

In my opinion he is the greatest athlete to have ever played hockey. Wayne has such a immense impact on young kids that they look up to him on and off the ice. He treats people how he would want to be treated. And he had such good sportsmanship that some of the other players have even said that they look up to him, and give him a lot of respect for who he is, and what he has done to the game of hockey. He is my hero and many other people's too.

I think Wayne Gretzky will always be remembered as "The Great One". And he lives up to that name every day and always will be by hockey players, fans, and people alike. Wayne has made such a difference in my life simply because he has the motivation to succeed and be that guy that everyone will always remember. Even if you don't know much about hockey, you know who Wayne Gretzky is. And that's why he is a hero of mine.
