An Ordinary Person: Shaun White becomes an athlete: Shaun White had started on a pair of skis. Up until one day as he was watching his older brother Jesse White Snowboarding, and tried it out at the age of six. Shaun's mom only allowed him to try it out because she thought that it would slow him down."Boy was she wrong." All it did was increase his speed. It wasn’t long after when Shaun White was competing In amateur competitions a year later and had won almost all of the competitions he entered.

Shaun White never gives up: Throughout the year Shaun is constantly on the road travelling from different (countries, provinces, states, continents, etc…) But where ever it is that Shaun may be, not only is he making up his own tricks but he's learning various techniques from other pro snowboarders and skateboarders and enjoying being with other pros because it motivates him to try new things.
Extraordinary circumstances: At a very young age not only was Shaun snowboarding but Burton was already knocking on his door. At the age of 13 he was already known worldwide as a pro and sponsored by Burton. When Shaun was 13 he was already pushing his limits.
Odds stacked against him: the #1 biggest odd stacked against Shaun White, I would have to say, was a serious accident. While skateboarding on M.T.V. sports and music, doing tricks with another pro, he collided into the pro and fractured his head and broke his hand and foot. He was found in school pictures with 2 black eyes, after his accident. Shaun White had been trying to relax and calm down after his injuries in the past. The #2 biggest odd stacked against him is this: to me it looks like Shaun can’t really have a girlfriend because he would not be able to make enough time to study practice and make time for a girlfriend.

How does he prevail: After entering in various competitions bringing home many gold medals from the x games and participating in the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, Shaun White is well-known around the world as the "Flying Tomato". I also think that Shaun White prevails as a hero because he has taught me and I bet many other children worldwide that they could do just about anything that they want or dream of doing. It doesn’t matter how old you really are as long as you work hard and believe in yourself and consider yourself a hero because one day you could be a hero to somebody.
