The hero that I have chosen to write about, is Dan Whitney, better known as Larry, the Cable Guy as a comedian who has been in several films: Larry, the Cable Guy: Health Inspector. Dan co-starred in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, and the series Blue Collar TV. Dan was known in the nineties on the Ron and Ron show, and especially for his thick southern accent and his catchphrases. Some of those catchphrases were: “Git-r-done, I don't care who you are. That's funny right there, Lord, I apologize for that one there, and please be with all the starving Pygmies down there in New Guinea!, That's Right, and Do you believe that? He also tells funny stories about his family. These phrases have been put throughout the world, but mostly the phrase “Git-r-done” has been put on hats, t-shirts, key chains, and an assortment of other things found in most local gas stations.
Dan has done many different things in his life so far. Dan went to the Baptist University in West Palm Beach after his family moved from Nebraska. Dan started out his comedian career with small local radio stations. When he was in college, he tried stand-up for the enjoyment of his peers and co-workers. He soon got a reputation from these small parties and found himself getting called to do the same in clubs. He became a professional performer, and since then he has become known as Larry, the Cable Guy.
Dan Whitney has been criticized by many people. Dan has not released any official biographies, and little else is known about his personal life except that he was born in Nebraska. When approached with questions about his personal life, Dan seems to mix his stage persona with his real one, making it impossible to write anything about him. Critics then decided, that Dan was mixing his stage persona with his real one to fool his audience into thinking he was Larry when he was really just a well paid comedian, not even from the south. Out of the blue, Mr. Whitney released that his wife, Cara, and he were expecting a child on August sixth, 2006. Though he is criticized, he still releases little about his life, probably to make him more believable on stage. Dan deserves a personal life, and it is his right to keep it from everybody else.
Dan is a hero. Why is he a hero, you might ask? Well, Dan has done something very important, even though he makes cash for it. Mr. Whitney has made people laugh, and spread “joy” around. Laughing is good for health, and a strong mind in any age person. So one could conclude the Dan is a doctor who uses laughing to heal.
Heroes have all sorts of shapes and sizes, and from many different backgrounds. Heroes a great because of the variety of places that they come from. Dan is a hero because he inspires and makes people laugh. As odd as it may seem, I wouldn’t categorize Dan as an entertainer, or artist, or anything else. Why? The simple answer is that Mr. Whitney is a little of everything, but mostly a funny guy. He makes people laugh, so he deserves a place on this website. That is a Mr. Dan Whitney as a hero.
