Winter

Winter is a dolphin that is known for his prosthetic tail. He was born on October 2005 and lives in the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

At only three months old, Winter was found stranded in Mosquito Lagoon, near Cape Canaveral, Florida. Winter's tail became tangled in a crab trap line which has cut off the circulation to her tail. After taking off the crab line, Winter was transported to Clearwater Marine Aquarium for treatments of her injuries. However they could not fix her tail, because her tail deteriorated and could not be saved. Most dolphins would not survive, but Winter's energy and ability helped her adapt to a new physical form.

Winter learned to swim in a side to side pattern, but the side to side pattern wasn't good for for Winter's spine. Dolphins were meant to swim in an up and down pattern. If Winter kept swimming in a side to side pattern, Winter could die. So, Kevin Carroll made Winter's prosthetic tail.

Winter is a my hero, because he kept on working nicely with her doctors and learned to adapt with a prosthetic tail. Winter is a great role model for people who has prosthetic.
