I chose a singer band for my heroes. They didn't achieve an exploit and they didn't discover anything but in my opinion they are really important. They are kind of heroes because they invest in all of subjects. They talk about society phenomenons.
| Les Wriggles |
The group was created in 1995. They were five French men who are called Christophe Gendreau, Stéphane Gourdon, Antoine Réjasse, Frédéric Volovitch and Franck Zerbib. They are very talented because they manage to do a combination of hilarious, poetic, provocative or tender texts and they are generally realistic.
Moreover, the Wriggles are complete artists: they are actors as well as singers, also humorists and choreographers,... They always wear red dungarees at their concerts. I saw one of their concerts and I think they are very amazing. They introduce sketches among their various songs. They communicate with their public, they do many jokes,...
Now, I'm going to speak about my favorite songs. Although they are numerous, I will explain some of them. First, my favorite song is "Poupine et Thierry". In this song, they talk about the story of a couple from two different universes. Indeed, Poupine is a rabbit and his girlfriend is a weasel. This comic situation reflects a real current conflict. In fact, they speak about a cultural problem in a real couple. In this song, they explain that the weasel's father doesn't want her to date the rabbit. The Wriggles think about a couple of a Muslim and a Christian or a Hindu and a Jew,... The rhythm is very pleasant and the song is filled with humorous puns. To conclude, I can say that the group succeeds in talking about this delicate subject with an amusing song.

In another song they tackle the subject of racism. The song is called "Délit de face, yes!". They choose various examples of racism. I will translate three verses so that you can understand:
Barnabé is Parisian
And for a big bunch of jerks
Before being seen as somebody
One sees him like a black
Mustapha is Moroccan
But for a big bunch of racists
Before being seen as somebody
One sees him like a terrorist
For a good number of greedy
It is above all sausage
Pâté, ham
Nevertheless Fifi is a pig
The last verse shows that this song is humoristic but the subject is really serious.
In others songs, they talk about selfishness, cigarettes, rape, homosexuality, religion,...
In conclusion, I think the Wriggles are my heroes because they are funny and very intelligent.
