My hero is my loving mother, Yvette Monus McFerson. She brings joy and happiness into my life. She may not have an all day job, but she is the most cooperative person I know. Basketball, tennis, musical theatre, gymnastics, and soccer are all the things she has to drop us off for. That is a lot of things. Plus she has to drop us off at two different schools.
My mother has been so kind to me. She took the time and money to plan a trip to New York. My mom and I went with two of my friends and their moms to The Big Apple to see my friend from Musical Theatre in a play. I was so happy my mother agreed to take me to support my friend in her big shining moment. That trip is something I'll never forget. Besides that trip to New York, my mom and I also like to scrapbook together. She teaches me about always being precise and not wasting the paper. I don't have a board cutter and the special scrapbook tape, so my mom always lets me use those too. My mom spends a lot of time on her kids, but she has activities she participates in too. She practices her tennis by attending team clinics and matches. Besides tennis, as a parent she must do one workday a month at my little sister's school. On top of that, she is also on the Preschool Board at my sister's school. She serves as the Treasurer and collects all the money for the events and the children's daycare program which is provided after school. My mother's days are usually in her car, rushing around town to pick up her children and make them pleased but she also gets time to relax and enjoy life.
My mother is beautiful inside and out because she cares for everyone and always knows how to make us happy. Mom makes me realize how lucky I am to have two wonderful parents that love me. Generosity is another characteristic my mother has. She spends her money on us and buys us treats (as my sister would say) and clothes. Not only does she make her kids happy, she also makes the kids at Children's Hospital Los Angeles smile. Children's Hospital Los Angeles provides a safe place for injured or very sick children to stay. My mother sits on the Board of an Auxiliary group that raises money for the hospital. The organization puts on a garden tour every year on the Westside.
A big smile crosses my face when I see the pride in her eyes. But there have also been special moments where that pride creeps out of me for my mother. I am thankful I have a mother who cares so much about the protection and safety of her kids. Yvette Monus is not just that ordinary mom but she is the super special mom who always wants the right things done. My mom and I have had fights and arguments and also hugs and kisses. No matter what happens I know my mother is always going to be there for me and also going to be there to turn my frown upside down.
