Think of a person and make that person your hero. Well my hero is Yao ming. He joined the NBA in 2002. He plays basketball because he enjoys it. He is 29 years old. His goal was to win a championship for the Houston Rockets. He is a 7-time all star winner. He started playing basketball at the age 9. He was born in Shanghai on September 12, 1980. He started playing basketball because his mom and dad were also famous basketball players. He plays for the Houston Rockets. He helped raise more than $300,000 to stop the spread of SARS.

When Yao was young he wanted to be an adventurer and explore the whole world. When he was a rookie in the NBA he scored 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.74 blocks per game. Yao Ming was the first chinese basketball player to join the NBA. He is world famous. In the summer Olympics of 2004 Yao carried the Chinese flag as they all marched into the stadium. Nike asked Yao to go to one of the basketball camps in the U.S.A in 1998. When Yao came to the U.S.A he was lost because he did not know english.

Yao is my hero because he knows there are more important things than basketball. He is fair because he passes the ball to his teammates and does not keep the ball to himself. He is important to me because I would like to be fair and selfless, caring and balanced just like him.
