Abraham lincoln

A hero is someone who never gives up and stands up for what he believes in. A hero is someone who is respected by people of all races. Someone who has patience and always does what is right for others. My hero must have seen this definition because he grew up to be a man with all of these qualities.

His gigantic figure was always the center of attention, but not because of his enormous size. Abraham Lincoln, my hero, was six feet three inches tall, but his personality ws much larger than his height. Throughout Lincoln's life he always fought for the good of the country and its people. Abraham Lincoln will always live as one of my heroes.

Abraham Lincoln can now be looked at as one of the best presidents in our history. His fame did not come easy though. Lincoln's most outstanding quality was his determination. His determination, a strong and powerful quality stood above all others. As a young man Lincoln was the postmaster general and he had the worst record of delivering mail in the nation. He later moved on to politics but for many years Lincoln couldn't even get elected t for a senate position. Eventually he was elected to the senate and then made his home in the White House. If Abraham Lincoln had not been so determined and persistent we may never have witnessed one of the greatest presidents in our history.

The Constitution says that all men are created equal. Lincoln agreed with this quote but he couldn't understand that if all men are created equal then how come black men and women are being enslaved. Lincoln believed in doing what was good for the country and that was another of his great qualities. Lincoln didn't believe in slavery and he set out to do something about it. In Lincoln's eyes black and white were equal and if it took a war to get the country to see that way then a war it would be. The north led by Lincoln declared war on the south and for several years the divided nation fought over slavery. After four years of fighting the north won and slavery no longer existed in the United States.

During Lincoln's life he had to have a lot of patience. His wife was a very mean spirited person and Lincoln put up with her for many years. He also had to have patience for his career to develop. It took over ten years Lincoln to find a successful field. He also had to be patient with the south during the war, when he was trying to come to an agreement with them. Without patience Lincoln couldn't have achieved many of the successes of his life. Lincoln was a great man in my mind and in the minds of many other people. I wish I could have experienced his power and importance in person. Without Abraham Lincoln the United States could still be a divided nation. President Lincoln understood the quality, white=black.
