Amelia Earhart

by CAMERON DUNN from CLEARWATER, Florida in United States

Amelia Mary Earhart is my hero. She was born July 24th, 1897. She was the first female aviator to fly by herself over the Atlantic Ocean! She wrote many best selling books about her flying adventures. She was the first woman given the United States Distinguished Flying Cross for her incredible flight over the Atlantic Ocean.

Amelia loved to read when she was young. She was home schooled by her mom, Amy, until she was 12 and started 7th grade. Amelia was 24 when she took her first flying lesson. She had to save 1,000 dollars, take a bus and then walk four miles to get to her flying lessons. Amelia was okay with that because she was determined to be a pilot. Sadly on her journey over the Pacific Ocean she disappeared July 2nd, 1937 they lost her signal. Nobody knows what happened that day but it was very sad.

I love Amelia Earhart, shes my hero! I love how she showed women that they can be more than just nurses and stay at home moms. Woman can be pilots!!! Amelia gave speeches about piloting and women's rights. She had a troubled childhood but that didn't stop Amelia from following her dreams and be coming a pilot. Amelia inspired women all over the world to stand up and be extraordinary!
