Ang Lee

by Alice Lee, Wendy Lu, Yiting Liu, Jerry Wei - High School - from Tainan in Taiwan

Ang Lee, who is famous as a Chinese director, was born in 1945. We admire that he has perseverance and has a passion for the movies. It is also a crucial point that he could succeed. However, Lee has ever had a frustrating time before. After going through the hardships and bumpy moments, Lee is receiving numerous awards and has a lot of popular works now.

Graduating from New York University in 1984, Lee didn’t have chances to make the films. He didn’t give up dreaming to make his own films, but abundantly read the books and constantly kept writing the scripts for six years to learn the structure of a film. At that difficult time, Lee could merely make a living by his wife herself. The saying has it that “every cloud has a silver lining.” Lee got a chance to make the film.

Finally, the movie The Pushing Hands was awarded in the Taipei Golden Horse International Film Festival in 1990. Brokeback Mountain received recognition from society. Lee persists in making a good film because he puts the emphasis on every work. Take Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon for example. The actress in the film had been redressed about pronunciation by Lee. The saying has it that “the devil is hidden in the details.” And that is why Ang Lee could be successful. The Life of Pi was also awarded the Academy Award for the Best Directing and other international awards in 2013.

The works of Lee reflect the profound opinion because of the deep at those six years. From the frustration to the award, this process does not prove just his affirmation but also his unique honor. Everyone can make your dream come true if you love it so much. The harder you work, the more you will get. Straightly go on your way and never give up!
