Bill Wilson

by Andrea from Sycamore J.r High

Anything is possible if you just believe.

Heroes can be strong and save the day. Heroes can be really smart and think new ideas. If you have a big heart, then you are a hero to me.

My hero is Bill Wilson. At the age of 22 he had no idea that his life was being wasted away by alcohol. He had a tough life and then it all changed. Here is his story.

After 17 years and his health and career were destroyed, he realized how he could help himself and millions of others. In a hospital in Manhattan “he saw the light." He discovered the 12-step process to help with a problem called alcoholism. Not only did this process help with alcoholism, but also other addictions like gambling, sex addictions, and eating disorders.

Susan Cheever said, “From a ruble of a wasted life, he overcame alcoholism and founded the 12-step program that helped millions of others do the same." This must have been hard since his dad also had a problem with alcohol himself as Wilson grew up.

There are many types of heroes; my hero is a survivor hero. A survivor hero is the type of hero that survived, not expecting to become a hero someday. Bill is a survivor hero who showed faith and courage in what he did. He helped millions through his own experience in overcoming alcoholism and establishing the 12-step program.
