Have you ever wanted to be president? Barack Obama went through a tough childhood. But he ended up becoming the first African American president in history as well as helping many people along the way.
Obama was born on August 4th 1961, in Honolulu. He spent part of his childhood in Indonesia before returning to Honolulu. In 1964, his parents got divorced. Obama's dad returned to Kenya, only visiting his son once in 1971, the Christmas before dying in a car accident in 1982. He then went to college and excelled at academics and basketball. In 1979, Obama spent 2 years at Occidental College before transferring to Columbia University in New York. Briefly becoming a business writer in 1985. He then moved to Chicago to set up after-school programs for low-income neighborhoods. Trying to make a bigger impact, Obama enrolled in Harvard Law School, and then he became the first African American president, making history.
He positively impacted health care access (expanded coverage- gave affordable insurance for people uninsured), civil rights and equality (marriage equality- reshaped legal rights of LGBTQ), and global/environmental health. (Protected over 800,000 undocumented immigrants from deportation and offered them jobs) Values he has to act in a heroic way are empathy, equality, and civic resilience.
In conclusion, Obama was very heroic. He persevered and helped many people, spreading kindness to the world. He was also a great leader, and he is calm under pressure. This means he can still help people and doesn’t get worried in times of crisis.
