Every child deserves the best start in life, but what is best varies from child to child.
The Benedict Blythe Foundation was established in 2021 in memory of 5-year-old Benedict following his tragic sudden death. Benedict was an enthusiastic learner - he loved to ‘play numbers’ and learn about the natural world.
Inspired by his passion for knowledge, exploration and play, The Foundation seeks to support other children to have the same positive relationship with learning regardless of their ability.

Benedict Blythe was a remarkable young boy whose time with us was brief. He had a deep love for storytelling and a fascination with mathematics, often waking up early on Sunday mornings to explore the world of numbers. At the remarkable age of four, he joined Mensa, showcasing his exceptional intelligence and eagerness to learn.

Benedict also had a special bond with his younger sister, Etta. He loved playing with her, looking after her, and he was her greatest cheerleader. He was once asked ‘what is your superpower?’, and after thinking about it, he replied, ‘It’s when I can help Etta open the door’. Clearly, his superpower was not his genius but his kind heart and ability to empathise.
Benedict was born with asthma which presented challenge resulting in frequent hospital visits. During the pandemic, he took extra precautions by shielding for six months. Despite these difficulties, Benedict nurtured dreams of becoming a doctor, specifically envisioning himself in an air ambulance, ready to help others in need.
Benedict also had many severe allergies, which his parents discovered when he was just four months old, leading them to take extra precautions, keeping him at home, and limiting socialising to ensure his safety. As he grew older, they began to trust others with his care, providing instructions and making sure all were aware of his allergies and necessary medication.
However, on December 1st, 2021, Benedict went to school, as usual, but collapsed after eating a snack and passed away later that day.

Described by his mother as a happy, contented, and self-assured boy, Benedict's warm and loving nature touched the hearts of those around him. His memory serves as a reminder to cherish our loved ones and extend kindness to others.
The Benedict Blythe Foundation’s mission is to ensure that all children’s unique talents are met in a safe place to learn and that they are given the support to shine. Their vision is for a world where every child can reach their learning potential, that they learn in and about the natural world and have a safe place to learn.
The foundation achieves its mission through funding local and national innovative projects including providing and designing resources and education.
