This is a 11" x 14" 3 color stencil print on bristol, made with carved plastic sheets. My Grandfather who passed in April of 2022 is a hero in many ways, including serving in the navy during the Vietnam war, where he found a passion for sailing and the sea.
For me, his heroism was more importantly shown through his adoration of me, my cousins and our family. He always played monster with us, showed us dioramas and pictures from his adventures, and was a role model in goofing off and having the best time.
He is depicted skippering a sailboat and looking up, checking the sails and navigating. I created this to honor him and embody his bright and ambitious personality, while showing him in his element - on the water and joining the water as he fades into the paper.
