Blanca Canales

Blanca Canales saved many peoples lives because she righted for peoples rights she even went to jail after all this but she didn’t care as long as she knew she was doing the right.She is well known because she fought for rights. And heroic because she led a small group of poorly equipped nationalists against the United States military and the National Guard.

Blanca Canales was born in (February 17, 1906 – July 25, 1996) in Jayuya Her mother was an ardent independentista, and her father for the Union Party of Puerto Rico. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico in the 1930’s. She grew up in a very wealthy, educated, and well-known family.

Blanca Canales stood up against colonialism, defending civil rights in jail , and breaking barriers for women in political movements. Her actions continue to inspire activists, feminists, and human rights defenders globally. 

Blanca Canales chose a life path aimed at uplifting the most marginalized citizens of Puerto Rico. She also chose to risk her life, her career, and her freedom because she deeply cared about the hardships of others. She risked everything to raise the Puerto Rican flag when the "Gag Law" made doing so a serious crime. She made a big impact on Puerto Ricans she was independent and showed bravery this is why i think Blanca Canales will always be a heroic figure in history.
