He had to make a very important decision if he wanted to continue figure skating in competitions. He would have to give up hockey and move to Edmonton and live with his cousin until he could get a home of his own. He did. He moved with his coach, Michael Jiranek and worked very hard. He was juggling school and homework. He once even tried a part time job, but his school and skating suffered, so he decided to quit the job. Before that, he had won the pre-juvenile dance. In 1994 he decided to retire from a successful career as an amateur figure skater and go on tour with Stars on Ice. In 1991 Kurt met Sonia Rodriguez, a ballerina for the National Ballet of Canada. Kurt proposed to her at the Maple leaf Gardens in Toronto in a 1995 Stars on Ice show in front of the entire audience. Kurt now has a baby boy named Gabriel born on July 12 2003. He lives in Toronto, Ontario.

I think that Kurt Browning is a true hero because he inspires me to keep going if I fall, and that some day I may achieve something like he did. This person’s life taught me to never give up.
