Many people have heroes. To some people there heroes are their fathers, mothers, firefighters, ect. My definition of a hero is someone that you look up to that did something really awsome that you thought could never happen. My hero is Cael Sanderson because he went undefeated in college all 4 years. He also won 4 NCAA championships. There has been only 1 other person to win 4 NCAA championships but no one ever went undefeated all 4 years of their college wrestling career.
I look up to Cael because he is the best there ever was in college wrestling history. I have been wrestling for about 8 years and for me, someone that can do what he did, is unbelievable. I have followed him since he got into college, from his freshman year up until now. Even when he was in high school he was awsome. He was a 4 time Utah State Champ and he was named the nation's top prep wrestler at 171 lbs by Amateur Wrestling News in 1997. (biography)
He wrestled at 184 lbs when he was a freshman to a junior. He wrestled at 197 lbs when he was a senior. When he was a junior. Cael was the first non-senior colligiate wrestler to win the Dan Hodge Trophy as a college wrestlings top performer. He went to a basketball game only to receive a plaque for his amazing wrestling record of 105-0. No one has ever won that many matches straight. (Bamberger n.p.) He was top ranked all 4 years of his college career in the nation.
He was the first freshman from Iowa State to win an NCAA championship. He was also the first freshman in history to be named "Most Outstanding Wrestler" in an NCAA tournament. His freshman year he had a record of 39-0. His sophmore year he again won an NCAA championship with a record of 40-0. He did the same when he was a junior and a senior. (biography) He became the first college wrestler to finish is career with 159-0 wins and 4 NCAA championships.(Bechtel 44)
Cael Sanderson is my hero because he didn't quit trying to be the best. Finally as a Senior after he won his 4th straight NCAA championship he was considered the best wrestler in college history and for me that is unbelievable.
