Growing up loving cats, founder and CEO of Big Cat Rescue Carole Ann Baskin stood up for big cats like lions, tigers, and leopards. As an activist, this is a short story about her.
Carole Ann Baskin was born in Texas on June 6th, 1961. At 9 years old, she first started to feel interested in helping save cats. By the time she was seventeen, she bred show cats for money and also did a lawn business featuring llamas to trim it. She also was on several television shows such as season 29 of Dancing with the Stars or the show Tiger King, with her iconic catchphrase “Hey all you cool cats and kittens!” She even had her own podcast called the Cat Chat, that was talking about protecting big cats. She is also still alive today, trying to protect some wild cats from extinction.
Through her love of cats and wanting to take care of them, Carole Ann Baskin has founded Big Cat Rescue, a big cat sanctuary home to 230 rescued exotic cats. Not only that but Carole has also rehabilitated native wildlife and passed the Big Cat Public Safety Act, that banned privately owning big cats plus breeding or petting cubs.
Through her work for cats, Baskin has demonstrated selflessness that causes kindness and a better world. We can learn from her that any animal deserves a place to live and grow.
