Doorway to Freedom

This is the House of Slaves in the Island of Goree (in Africa ) where slaves used to be kept before being shipped overseas where they were to regain freedom some hundreds of years later. Ironically enough America is a symbol of pains but it symbolises freedom and emancipation too , which I tried to materialise with the flying birds. The door that opens on the sea is the one they used to go through in order to board the slave ship.But it leads to Freedom too. You may notice three different colors of sea, or water, this stands for Europe, America and Africa. Finally, as strange as it may seem, the slave had to go through those three waters to regain freedom but purity at the same time.
