George Chuvalo

"Ding, Ding, Ding", "And the winner is by knock-out, George Chuvalo!" George Chuvalo, heavyweight boxing champion is truly a hero. George Chuvalo is very emotionally strong. He is very determined to battle drugs in Canada and to stay on top in the boxing ring. George is also very successful and has been rewarded in many ways to show it.

After a fight Muhammed Ali said, "He (Chuvalo) was the toughest man I ever fought. He took all my best shots." Not only is George physically strong but emotionally strong as well. George speaks to parents, students and many other groups about drugs and how they changed his life. He lost 3 sons to drug overdoses and his wife, Lynn to suicide. Being a father with as much wisdom as he has, he is able to capture any listener. On February 19, 2003 he gave a presentation, "It's 18 years ago today, my son pointed a 22 Calibre rifle to the roof of his mouth because he couldn't handle his addiction." Anybody who ever lost someone to drugs knows how hard it is to talk about it almost everyday. In his presentations George shows that there is a way to overcome these kinds of things.

George Chuvalo was very determined not to let the tragedies in his life keep him from being the best in the boxing ring. He still kept coming out on top. When George was younger he said, " I will do anything to become the best boxer." He visits over 1,000places in Canada and the U.S. to give presentations on drugs and drug abuse. He is determined to tell people (youth especially) to respect themselves and their decisions and to stay in school. His major goal is/was to help battle drugs in Canada.

George Chuvalo is very successful and has been rewarded rewarded for it. George tours and does his presentations and he does a lot of charity work as well. Aside from being the best in the ring, George has also starred in a few movies. He was awarded a star on Canada's Walk of Fame on June 5, 2005 for his remarkable career and influential life. A few years before, he was indoctrinated into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. He was also given the Order of Canada in 1998. George is noted for his toughness, and he fought all the greats. Nobody ever knocked him out, not even Joe Frazier, George Foreman or even Muhammad Ali. The feedback that George has received has been positive, appreciative and encouraging.
