You Only Live Once

Interview with Rylan (my brother) about our grandpa who has passed away:

1. What made our grandpa such a good man?

What made our grandpa such a good man is that he was always such a nice person to everyone, he was always helping anyone who desired it, and finally his honesty was nothing I could ever compare to anyone else I know.

2. How did he affect you becoming who we are today?

My grandpa made me who I am today because he was always telling me to  do the right thing whatever the circumstances were; also he would never back down from anything that was in his path, and that is what made me want to be the person he was.

3. If he was still here, what would be something you would say to him?

The thing that I would say if he were still here is that I love him, and the reason for that is because when my grandpa was dying it was very unexpected, and no one in our family was ready for it, and we did not get to say our goodbyes to him before he had passed.

4. If you could bring him back, would you and why?

If I had the choice to bring him back I don't think that I would, because when he died it had caused us so much pain that I feel that if we brought him back again, it would cause us even more pain if he left again. Also, I feel that my grandpa is probably in a better place now, and if he were still here in the hospital, our family would still be in the same pain but for even longer.

5. How do you think our life would be if he were still here today?

If our grandpa were still here in his healthy state, that would be amazing, because he taught Jake and me some helpful stuff to prepare us for life in the future, but if he were still here in his not-so-healthy state, I feel like the pain would weigh on our family even more.

6. How did him passing away affect you?

Him passing away really affected me because I was really close with my grandpa all my life, and when he was gone it was just really hard to process that I will never get to see or talk to him ever again, and that really hurts me.

7. What is your best memory of him?

The best memory that I have about our grandpa is when I would walk to our grandparents' house after school and I would have a lot of homework, and he wouldn't leave my side until I finished, and after we finished, he would bring me to Circle K and buy me a slushie to show me that when I do what I have to do, I get rewarded.

My grandpa, who went by the name of Claude Lebrun, passed away recently, but he was a really good man; he was so thoughtful of everybody around him. He was never frustrated or angry with anyone; he was always such a happy person. My grandpa loved to paint in his spare time; he was really good at it too. He was always giving my grandma a hand with anything she needed help with, and he was so loving with our whole family. My grandpa was not a very tall man: he was only about 5’10" and around 165 pounds, but his loyalty and honesty was bigger than anything you could think of. He was a very good looking man, he was always nicely dressed, you never would see him in sweatpants and a sweater, but more like a dress shirt and a nice pair of jeans or khakis. Also he was a very religious man, he went to church every Sunday with my grandma and prayed to God; unfortunately, he passed away too soon. My grandfather is my hero because he had a great personality, he was dependable, and he brought happiness to my life.

Finally, here is why he is my hero. First off, my grandpa had so many qualities that I hope I posses when I’m older. Here are a few: he was generous, nice, thoughtful, funny, and happy. Also, my grandpa was a person that me and my family could count on, whether it was for advice or as simple as bringing me and my brother to our sports games and practices. Finally, there was just something about him that made everybody smile even if they didn't know him. It was just his everyday happiness that made people around him happy and made their day better. Make sure you appreciate what you have while you have it.
