My hero is my mom because she is a survivor.

Cornelia dePeuter

by Hayley Henning from Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada

My hero is my mom, Cornelia dePeuter. I chose my mom as my hero because she overcame breast cancer stage A in 2015. When I was six, I found out on December 18, 2012 that my parents were going to get a divorce. Then 6 weeks later my mom's Oma died. When my mom was a kid, her Oma lived beside her. They were neighbors. My mom was born in 1980. She lived in Bradford on the 10th line. In her family she has her mom Corry dePeuter, dad John dePeuter, sister Michelle Janse, sister Tammy Jackson, Sister Kimberly Vanluyk and a brother John dePeuter. My mom has two kids: my brother Shayne and me. My mom lost her hair and we went wig shopping together. My mom didn't go anywhere without her wig. My mom had cancer when she got married, and she had it on her honeymoon too. Somehow, she still enjoyed it. This makes my mom a hero to me because she taught me that whenever something happens, God is with you. She told me that God is only a phone call away. I think that this situation definitely changed me as a person. That is why I have my mom as my hero. Because she is a survivor.
