My father
For my hero project I chose to draw a portrait of my father using black pen and fine liners. On the top left corner I drew a monster. I chose to draw my father who has passed away next to a monster to depict how I have viewed him for so long before his death and essentially it emphasizes the title ‘Crowned by Death’. For the longest time because of the stories my mom told me after her divorce from my father ,I saw him as a horrible person, one undeserving of love, at least my love. The monster represents the villain I saw my father as the portrait of him represents how I began seeing him after his death, after finding out about all the sacrifices and silent acts of love he’s performed. I chose this title to bring to life my perception on how my father’s acts of heroism and love only came to light when he passed away, and how it took death for me to see him as the hero he’s always been. The words in red are in Greek verbalize his kindness, the monster I saw him as and the overall meaning of the artwork. I have written the words in Greek to add to the mystery of my dad’s heroism hidden within my flawed perception of him.
