Rajmond Debevec

My hero is Rajmond Debevec. He was born on the 26. 3. 1963 in Postojna. When he was just a boy, he lived in Postojna, but now he lives in Grosuplje. My hero is a shooter. He started to train in 1978 with his teacher, Lojze Mikolic, who is still his trainer, teacher and best friend. He has a job in the Slovenian Army, Department of Sport, but by profession he is an economist. He is married to Metka and has two children, Matej and Andrej.

In 1979 he became a member of the Slovenian National Representation of Shooters. In 1980 he won his first medal in the air gun category. At the age of 24, he became the world champion for the first time. He took part in five different Olympic games during his career; 1984 in Los Angeles, 1988 in Seoul, 1992 in Barcelona, 1996 in Atlanta, and finally in Sydney, 2000 where he won the gold medal in the “3 position” category. But this is not enough for Rajmond. He is working very hard all this time after receiving the gold medal in Sydney because he wants to win one more time at the 2008 Olympic games in China.

I am a shooter, too, and so Rajmond Debevec is very important to me. When I started to shoot I really did not know about him, but then my shooter teacher introduced me to Rajmond's work and his achievements in the last ten years. Rajmond is known worldwide because of his special shooting technique, which is imitated by many excellent shooters around the world.
