Dakota Fanning

by Abby from Overland Park, Kansas

"The lesson is that it doesn't matter what car you drive and what house you live in, or even what you look like....It just matters what your heart looks like. It's about your ability to love." — Dakota Fanning

Would you ever have thought that someone could be in more than 20 movies and 36 television shows by the time she was 11 years old? Well, Dakota Fanning, a charismatic little blonde from Georgia, accomplished all of that.

Dakota Fanning has been performing long before her professional acting debut. When she was younger, she would always act around her house. At a playhouse near her home, Dakota and some other children would make up a play every week and show it to their parents. Those who watched the plays suggested to Dakota’s parents that they take her to an agency. They noticed that she was an exceptionally talented actor. Dakota and her family went to Los Angeles for six weeks. Soon after they arrived, Dakota got her first job in a Tide commercial. The Fannings decided to move to Los Angeles. Almost immediately after she arrived, Dakota was chosen for a role in "Tomcats." Shortly after, she signed with a professional talent agency and began her career as an actress.

Dakota got her first starring role in the movie "I Am Sam" in 2001 when she was only six years old. Not long after her big entrance into the acting business, movies starring Dakota were appearing everywhere. She had become quite the little star with many adoring fans. When she was eight years old, she became the youngest person to win a SAG award. Her popularity just kept growing as she starred in the ever famous "Cat in the Hat" and "War of the Worlds."

Dakota Fanning is my hero because, as you can see, she has gotten so far in so few years and that makes me believe that if I put my mind to it, I can, too.

Dakota Fanning is a very inspirational person. She showed me that a person can accomplish anything he or she wants no matter what the age. I think she is one of the most talented actors today, and I’m sure she will continue inspiring people for many years to come.
