An American physician, educator and public health advocate, Dr. Rios has dedicated her career to improving healthcare and reducing health disparities for Hispanic communities across the United States. Through her leadership, advocacy and commitment to education, she has inspired countless healthcare professionals while helping to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to everyone.

Throughout her career, she has been a powerful voice for health equity and has worked tirelessly to improve opportunities for Hispanic physicians, medical students and patients.
One of her most significant achievements was serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hispanic Medical Association for more than two decades where she represented over 50,000 Hispanic physicians in the U.S.. Under her leadership, the organisation became an influential advocate for Hispanic health issues, supporting healthcare professionals and promoting policies designed to improve healthcare outcomes across the country.
Dr. Rios served has been a trailblazer in advocating for health equity, earning numerous accolades throughout her career, including recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Congressional Caucuses. In 2022 and 2023, Washingtonian magazine named Dr. Rios among the Top 500 policy influencers in Washington, DC.
Today, Dr. Rios serves as President of the National Hispanic Health Foundation, where she continues her work in leadership development, education and medical research. The Foundation provides scholarships and programmes that encourage and support the next generation of healthcare leaders, helping young people pursue careers in medicine and public health.
Dr. Rios believes that representation matters. By supporting Hispanic students and physicians, she is helping to create a healthcare workforce that better reflects the communities it serves. Her work has helped countless individuals realise that they can make a difference in healthcare, regardless of their background.
What makes Dr. Elena V. Rios a hero is not only her impressive achievements, but also her lifelong commitment to helping others. She has used her knowledge, leadership and compassion to create opportunities for future generations and to improve the lives of people who may otherwise have been overlooked.
Dr. Rios holds a BA in Human Biology/Public Administration from Stanford University, an MSPH from the UCLA School of Public Health, and an MD from the UCLA School of Medicine. She has also received honorary degrees in Science from Lehman College and in Law from Wayne State University.
