Amy Van Dyken is my hero because she never gives up an always does her best. I look up to her in almost every way. She is an excellent role model for people, especially to for younger women all over the world. Amy gives me a great deal of inspiration, whenever I start to think I can't do something I just think of her. That always changes my attitude to think positive.
February 15,1973, Any was born and raised in Englewood, Colorado. School was always hard for her because swimming always got in her way. She said that between swimming and schooling, it gave herself a great deal of discipline. Amy now wants to become a school Biology teacher for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders after she is finished with her swimming career.
Asthma was what started Amy's swimming career, when the doctor said it would help it. So she tried swimming, never thinking that she would be the next future Olympic swimmer. Now she is the American record holder for women in the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-meter freestyle. Amy is the third fastest woman in history in the 50-meter freestyle.
Not only is she just known for her records, but she also went to the Olympic. 1992 Amy went to the Olympic Trials and finished fourth in her 50 free. In 1994 Amy was the world champion bronze medallist. At the 1996 games she brought home four gold metals. 100m fly, 50m free, 400m free relay, and the 400m medley relay. After now have going to the Olympics, she doesn't know if she will be participating at the next games.
In Conclusion, Amy has done and achieved a great deal of things throughout her life. She is not only a hero in my eyes, but also a hero to many other people. I hope that one day I will be just like Amy Van Dyken, for she is a true hero.
