Boomer's foundation picture |
Norman “Boomer” Esiason was born in West Islip, NY on April 17, 1961. He is still alive to this day. He was a star quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, the Arizona Cardinals, and the New York Jets. He is my hero because he started a foundation for children with cystic fibrosis because his son suffers from this disease.
In Boomer’s college/pro years of football he won the M.V.P. award once and he was sometimes known as “the best left handed quarterback.” Boomer played for Maryland in college. Then he went on to be drafted in the second round in the 1984 National Football League (NFL) draft. He was the 37th overall pick. He played for 14 years.
Boomer Esiason is a nice, loving person who won’t deny anyone because they're different or have problems. He never would have given up on his son when he was born. Boomer is one caring person.

Boomer with his son Gunner |
Boomer Esiason is a hero because his son has cystic fibrosis and he started a foundation. The foundation is called the Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF). Cystic fibrosis is a fatal genetic disorder that affects over 30,000 Americans. His foundation helps doctors to find a cure for cystic fibrosis and helps children learn about their disease. His foundation also helps the children get a good education while they are in the hospital.
Boomer’s biggest obstacle is having a son with cystic fibrosis. Boomer turned a problem into a blessing. I think this is his biggest obstacle because I know it’s hard to have a child with a problem because my cousin was born with problems.
