Lebron James

by Jay from Glenbrook Middle School

"Man, meeting Michael Jordan for me was like black Jesus walking towards me. It was overwhelming to me to finally meet the guy I've looked up to my whole life." - LeBron James

Lebron James is my hero. One of the reasons I choose him was because he is my favorite basketball player and because he is very caring for other people. Lebron James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio. In 2004 he started the Lebron James Family Foundation. In November 2007 he treated 800 local residents (many of which were homeless) to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at Quicken Loans Arena (were the Cavs play.) Lebron is one of the most charitable people I know.

Lebron has donated about millions of dollars to different charities around the world. On February 15, 2009 Lebron along with rapper Jay-Z and singer Beyonce Knowles, donated $50,000 to the Mesa Art Academy. In June 2006 Lebron and several other NBA players did a bike-a-thon to raise money for different charities in Ohio. This year's NBA All-Star Week was a special one for under-privileged kids in Phoenix, Arizona. Lebron donated a playground to the Boys & Girls Club.

I selected Lebron James because to me he is a role model and someone I look up to. Before I started this project I just thought of Lebron James as a basketball player. Now I think of him as a caring, unselfish, loving and joyful person. Lebron is not only a role model and a hero to me, but to kids all over the world.
