Firefighters

by Kasey and Daviel from Cleveland

The reason why we chose the firefighters is because they saved lives on 9/11. They risked their lives to save others. Their courage and determination was the turning point from disaster to healing. Without them, some people from the Twin Towers incident wouldn't be here today.

For me, the firefighters are heroes because they risked everything to save so many lives. I still cannot believe the courage and heart of these people. This is the least that my friend and I could do to remember them. I think that is the most honorable thing to do for another person. I still remember the horrifying sight in my mind.

I don't know why anybody would do something so horrible to us. We never did anything to them to deserve this. Luckily, the men and women of the NYPD and Fire Dept. were there to stand up and rescue. Everybody pitched in and never gave up hope. That's what showed our true colors. Even in a time of peril, our light shines bright in dark clouds.

I picked this assignment because the firefighters were really courageous and brave. Also because 9/11 is going to live on for everybody to remember and to learn from this experience. I remember how the firefighters put their lives on the line for the trapped people in the twin towers. I have learned that the firefighters died risking their lives for their country.

I feel that the firefighters are our heroes for the 9/11 attacks on America. Heroes, it means that they are people that risk their lives for their country, but much rather live for it and the firefighters do just that. All of these memories will live in people's hearts forever.

Extra Info

We join with our nation, and the rest of the world, in mourning the loss of the 343 FDNY firefighters in the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. We have been deeply moved by the outpouring of support from the many visitors to our site. As a result, Firefighters National Trust presented the International Association of Firefighters "New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund" with more than $4 million dollars last December, and an additional $400,000 in June of 2002. We also created the FDNY September 11th Scholarship Program to demonstrate our continued support of the families of those fallen firefighters. Every community has a renewed appreciation for their neighbors who risk their lives battling fires and saving lives. Just as we came together for the families of the 343 FDNY firefighters who rushed into the crumbling World Trade Center, we can show our appreciation for the brave men and women, many of whom are volunteers, who rush into burning buildings in our own neighborhoods.
