I decided to paint my mom because, truthfully speaking, she’s the one person who
influences me the most (although, I may not realize that each and every time). My mom does so much for me just out of love without expecting anything in return. One of the my special
moments with my mom is when she comes and sits with me to teach me the Qur’an. It’s not just about saying the words, it’s more on the patience in her voice when she gently corrects me or the fact that she never flips or gives up even when I struggle with what I’m learning. One day, when I grow up, I know she would want me to have good values and faith and that shows she cares.
She sacrifices so much that nobody really knows about it. I am always the priority of my
female black stone and thus, she also thinks of her and makes duʿāʾ and makes sure my needs are met before theirs. Whenever I feel stressed or don’t feel that I can do something, she reminds me that I can do it. No one celebrates more than her when I achieve something. Although she may not express her love in overt ways, it is everything to me, and helps me grow stronger more and more each day. This artwork I created is just a small reminder to say “thank you” for everything.
Although my actions may not say “thank you” enough, my words are sincere! According to me,
my mom is more than just my mom; she’s also my first teacher, my safe space, and my constant source of motivation to keep on getting better.
