“If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If there's shouting after you, keep going. Don't ever stop. Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.”
Harriet Tubman is one of America's best examples of bravery. She stood up for what she knew was right, even though she had a million hardships. But we must know the escape mission in which she s
A wanted poster from when Harriet and her brother first leftwikimedeaaved 70 slaves, but the level of bravery this required is astounding. So let's look at what got her there.
In 1822, Worcester County, Maryland, Araminta Ross was born. Since she was born as a slave in the South, she had many hardships. For instance, moving from owner to owner. When she was 12 years old, a store owner threw a 2 lbs metal weight at her head. This caused her to develop what scientists call epilepsy. Around this point, she became very faithful. But in 1849, her owner was going to sell her. So she prayed and asked for him to die, and it worked! But,
After Araminta’s and her family’s owner died, she feared that she would be separated from her family. So on September 17th, 1849, Araminta and her brothers, Ben and Harry, escaped, but they missed their home. Ending with all of them heading back, but this did not change Araminta's resolve to get to safety. So sometime in the fall, she escaped.
When she was fully safe in Pennsylvania, she started to realize that her friends, family, and other slaves were still there. Thus, she began her 13 rescue missions. With every mission she took, the risks were higher and higher, yet she never lost a single person. Showing bravery and determination. Even after her mission days were over, she kept fighting for the freedom and safety of people. Becoming a nurse and fighting for women's rights.
With all this in mind, I would say that Harriet Tubman showed a large amount of bravery. With her courage, she helped to bring justice during dark times.
