Helen Keller reads with her teacher, Anne Sullivanwikimeda commons
I think a hero is peaceful, kind, and strong. A hero has to be strong to save people, like if someone is getting bullied. It's good to be kind so you will be respected, so people care about you. It's good to be peaceful so no wars happen and no damage is done to the world. I think kindness is the most important trait, so then people will trust a hero and they can be trusted by doing good things!
Helen Keller was a blind and deaf woman who helped people get an education. She also traveled around the world to help the blind and deaf. This shows that she cared about other disabled people and that they can achieve what she did!
Helen was born in 1880, in Alabama. At one-and-a-half-years-old she had an illness that made her deaf and blind. Her parents took her to Alexander Graham Bell. Bell got the Kellers to get a teacher named Annie Sullivan, who was deaf. She taught Helen to use hand signs to communicate. Soon enough she was able to get a good education. In 1900, after graduation, her plan was to go to the public to tell the people about the blind and deaf people and the challenges they face. She wrote essays that described how she used her senses to understand what was going on around her. In 1968 she died, at 87 years old.
I think her most important accomplishment was getting a good education, because having a good education could help her teach others. The first challenge she faced was getting a good education. She did it because the teacher knew how hard it was to learn. She told her words by finger spelling and then she touched the things she spelled!
I think Helen Keller was a hero because she was deaf and blind and still managed to learn and teach. She helped many blind and deaf people and she was strong by not giving up! She was so strong in mind, which is how she achieved that goal. She was kind by helping the blind and deaf. She was peaceful by not hurting anybody! That is why I think Helen Keller is a hero!
