This poem reflects on the silent sacrifices of heroes, those who bear the weight of the world with quiet strength. It explores how, even when they fight with hope, love, and care, they too need the empathy and support of others. In times of darkness, we must remember them, for heroes, like all of us, sometimes feel alone

Heroes

by Angelina Irkutska from Sarny in Ukraine

“Even heroes need a hand to hold, for they are made of flesh and bone, not only courage”

Heroes never truly die —

Their courage echoes in the sky.

They shield the earth, they clear the air,

They fight with hope, with love, with care,

And carry burdens none should bear.

But who will stand when they grow weak?

Who hears the silence when they speak?

Who tends the wounds the world won’t see,

And holds them through the storm’s decree,

With quiet strength and empathy?

It’s time we give what they have shown:

A hand to hold, a heart, a home.

Let’s light the dark when hope is gone,

Remember them — each name, each one —

For even heroes feel alone.

Extra Info

I wrote this poem in honor of those who often go unseen in their heroic acts—those who quietly carry the burden of others’ struggles. It is a reminder that even in the darkest times, hope and love can be a guiding light for us all
