Heroes of Making Fog Collectors

by Huang MinLing Huang from Taichung in Taiwan

In my heart, my hero is not the flying Superman in the movies, but the seniors in our Rinan Junior High School.

They care about water resources and attach great importance to environmental protection.

They independently explored the phenomenon of morning dew in school and tried to collect water from the air.

The morning dew is because the temperature drops at night, and the water vapor in the air turns into small water droplets when it cools down and attaches to the leaves and grass.

The principle of the fog net is to use a thin net to let the water vapor in the air touch the net, and the water droplets will slowly flow down and be collected.

This method does not require machines or electricity, and is very suitable for use in droughts or water-scarce areas.

After everyone worked together, the seniors decided to set up the fog-blocking net on Huoyan Mountain and record how much water was collected every day.

They persisted in doing this regardless of the weather.

They did not do it for the prize, but to help everyone solve the water resource problem.

Watching the seniors observe, think, make, and finally actually set up the fog-blocking net, I think they are amazing.

They taught me that as long as you pay attention to discovering and solving problems, and stick to it, you can do meaningful things!

It also made me realize that you don’t have to be powerful to be a hero.

As long as you are willing to give and work hard, you can become a hero in the hearts of others.
