Charlton Heston was born John Charles (Charlton) Carter on October 4, 1923. He was born at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. His parents were Lila Charlton and Russell Whitford Carter. His stepfather was named Chester Heston. Charlton Heston was married on March 17, 1944 to Lydia Marie Clarke Heston at Greensboro's Methodist Church in North Carolina. The Heston's had a biological son named Fraser Clarke Heston born on 2-12-55 and an adopted daughter whom they named Holly Ann Heston Rochell born on 8-2-61.
After his stint of 3 years in the Army Air Corp stationed in the Aleutian Islands Mr. Heston began his career in films. He did Antony and Cleopatra on Broadway in 1948. He also had a television debut with Studio One in 1948. Mr. Heston starred in many many movies over his career. Among many awards over the lifetime of his career included the Kennedy Center Honors: Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1952 he had an Emmy nomination for Best Actor and also in 1966. He was elected Screen Actors Guild President 6 times. He has served as President of the American Film Institute and is the current President of the NRA.
Mr. Heston's childhood home is in St. Helen, Michigan. He graduated high school form New Trier Township High School and attended Northwestern University's School of Speech-Scholarship from Winnetka Drama Club.
Mr. Heston has been diagnosed as having Alzheimer's but is still doing the work for the NRA because this is something that he strongly believes in and it is legacy he hopes to leave behind for the next generation including his grandchildren: John Alexander Clarke Heston and Ridley Charlton Rochell.
Mr. Heston, whom everyone calls Chuck, lives in California with his wife, Lydia.
