Jason Wilcox

1) A hero cares about other people's feelings. 2) A hero helps kids develop a love of learning. 3) A hero helps me become who I am. 4) A hero is helpful to others. 5) A hero is a quality producer.

My hero is someone who made my learning fun for me and helped to make me who I am today. He was my teacher, Jason Wilcox. Jason is a teacher hero because he is my favorite teacher.

Jason Wilcox was a teacher at Glenmore Christian Academy from 1994-1997. At that time, he briefly left his teaching career there. I remember him loving hockey A LOT, and his favorite team was the Red Wings. He hung up posters, pogs and other things that had to do with the Red Wings. He was very humorous and made everybody in the class laugh. He showed that he really loved kids and always handed candies out to us. The candies that he gave out were little sour soothers and tiny green frogs.

Jason was sensitive to other people's feelings. Once, we were talking about Indians and he was going to talk about killing bunnies. Back then, in grade two, I just loved bunnies. Just before they were going to talk about killing bunnies he said, "Lindsay, you'd better plug your ears!" So I did. That was very thoughtful of him. Jason Wilcox was a quality producer. It was his desire to do things in a quality way. For example, he demonstrated quality by being able to make it fun and meaningful work. He was very organized in seating arrangements and teaching. My teacher Jason Wilcox made learning fun! Almost every day he would have at least one joke and he told stories about things that happened to him. He would tell us something fun that would deal with the subject that he was teaching us at the time! He helped me become who I am today. He did that by being funny. Since grade two, I have been trying to cause other people to laugh and make them happy. That is why so many people think he was one their favorite teachers. Jason was helpful to other people. He would never withhold help from someone when they needed help.

My hero, Jason Wilcox, has been my favorite teacher for four years and will probably stay that way. He is strong, he has courage, he is loving to others. Everybody in his class is special in his eyes, and he sure loves hockey, especially the Detroit Red Wings! He was and is an excellent teacher.
