Jahanara Imam is my hero because she represents courage, determination, and bravery, and she fought for my country Bangladesh, despite all the hardships she faced. Even after losing her husband and son to the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, she refused to lose herself to her grief. Instead, she channeled her pain and continued to fight for justice, standing up against people of higher power, to demand accountability for war crimes against her people, despite the consequences of her actions. In the face of oppression and resistance, she used her words, wit, voice, and actions to make sure that no victim remained unheard, even at the expense of her own safety and stability. Her bravery in telling the truth, devotion to preserving the memory of those lost in the war, and determination to fight for what’s right - even when it meant risking arrest for treason - show me what it means to be a hero, and defend those who cannot defend themselves. She is nicknamed the “Mother of the Nation” and is recognized as a hero to all for her incredible selflessness and perseverance. She proves that even one person’s voice, no matter how small, can inspire a whole country. Her nobility encourages me to fight for what I believe in, no matter the cost, even if the whole world seems against me.
