I chose Jonathan Toews because he was a star to many people and inspired me to always play hard.  My book is a biography written by Todd Kortemeier. This book has thirty two pages.  Jonathan Toews is 21 at the start of the book and it ends when he is 24.  Canada's Hockey Greats was written in 2016 Todd Kortemeier is a writer and journalist from Minneapolis.  He graduated from the University of Minnesota's schools of journalism and mass communication.

Jonathan Bryan Toews was born on April 29, 1988 in Winnipeg,Manitoba.  Jonathan Toews has a brother named David Toews, he plays for the New York Islanders.  Jonathan's Dad’s name is Bryan Toews and his Mother is Andrée Gilbert.  Jonathan Toews went to university hockey and played for the North Dakota hockey team.  When Jonathan Toews was not in school he was either playing hockey or hanging  around in his backyard doing who knows what.  The article Jonathan Toews:Beyond the Glory says that he put on his first pair of skates when he was only three and he skated on a backyard rink learning skills from his Dad.  Jonathan Toews had the dream of playing in the NHL and at age 18 that dream came true.

Jonathan Toews was not a big player so when he got into College hockey it was way harder against bigger players.  But because of his size he could easily get around his opponents because he was an amazing skater and overall a talented player.  Jonathan's Dad had a big influence on him when he was a kid.  His Dad built the a rink in their backyard and installed lights for night skating. Jonathan Toews scored his first goal on his first shot in the NHL which is tied to being driven and making quick decisions.  Jonathan also shows leadership as the Captain of the Chicago Blackhawks.  He had to learn how to be social on teams because he is a very serious person. He was in a car accident when he was 23 years old and was lucky he was not hurt. The article 10 Lesser Known Facts about Jonathan Toews says that in the 2008-09 season, he was named Captain of the Chicago Blackhawks at the age of 20, making him the third youngest captain in NHL history. A CBC sports article also said he won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs most valuable player in 2010.

Jonathan Toews taught me to always play hard and I learned that Jonathan Toews put on his first pair of skates when he was only three years old  and was an instant wiz on ice. The first question I would ask was it hard to get into the NHL not being the biggest guy?  The second would be were you ever on a travel hockey team when you were a kid? And last but not least who was the faster skater when you were a kid, David or you? Yes, I would've liked to be him obviously because of that awesome pond in his backyard.  Hockey Greats is a great book because it's great for hockey lovers like me and is not hard to lose yourself in. I learned that Jonathan Toews played for Canada in 2016. Me and Jonathan Toews both started playing hockey when we were both three years old.  If you aren't really into hockey then this is not the book for you if you are into hockey and enjoy the sport this is probably the book for you. I'm very happy I chose Jonathan Toews because he is a huge role model for me and I look up to him.
