"...and I thought I was really fat then...see how we can believe the lies..." - Kathryn Tucker
"To love others as God loves you, that is the measure of success." - Mother Theresa
"Trust Him when darkest fears assail thee, trust Him when your faith is small, trust Him when just to trust him is the hardest thing of all." Kathryn Lee Tucker, known to others as Kathy, embodies her favorite quote more than she knows. Not everyone who receives love knows how to give it, and even less who aren't told they're loved know how to love others. But Kathy took the love she was given and multiplied it by all the stars in the sky. She took the cycle and ripped it between her hands through what can only be a divine stubbornness to love.
Alma Lee and her two oldestIt is base human nature to love, so those that are hurtful have reasons deep in their heart. Back in 1949, Alma Lee Den Stevens ran away from home to live with a man and his family, who signed for the two to get married. She was only 14. Later she got pregnant with her first child, and her husband stabbed her in the stomach. She displayed immense courage in leaving him, even though her church did not approve of it. She remarried and had two more girls. However, the hurt never left her heart, and she said hurtful things to her children. One would expect her kids to carry their mother's trauma with them like so often happens, but they defied everything and are very loving people. Alma's middle girl, Kathryn, took the situation she was dealt and absolutely took off in a show of incredible resolve.
Kathryn Stevens married and had two kids. Contrary to how she grew up, Kathy's kids never once thought their mother didn't love them. Her kids had two kids each, and if love had a scale, Kathy Tucker as a grandmother would break it so bad it would evaporate. In fact, the love spilling out of her is detectable by babies, because every single baby that comes in contacts with her falls in love.
Even after all these exhibitions of love, Kathy still has more to give. Once she learned of the Isaiah 117 House Project, she was hooked. Isaiah 117 provides a safe space for kids just taken from their parents. It gives them a place to rest while a social worker finds a foster home for them. Not only is Kathy Tucker loving her children and grandchildren, but she will also be putting love into the hearts of kids who were likely going through similar emotional abuse as she was. There is no doubt the kids that are around her will feel her shining love and at least feel a little more safe.
Kathy and one of her grandkidsKathryn Tucker has been and will continue to be a hero to all who come in contact with her. Her incredible resolve to not let anything get in the way of her putting more love into the world has had a greater impact than she is aware of. If people experiencing unloving situations know that breaking the cycle is possible by simply loving others, the world has a chance to be a little less messed up.
