Breastplate
by Giovan Paolo Negroli (Italian, Milan ca. 1513–1569)
Sculpture
Armor-makers to the heroes of the day, the Negroli family became legendary metalworkers. Giovan Paolo (Fillipo's cousin) probably created this breastplate as a ceremonial piece to be worn for parades and official ceremonies. Originally, it was russet-colored (reddish-brown) with the raised details highlighted in gold.
