Helmet all'Antica
by Filippo Negroli (1510 - 1579)
Sculpture
The tightly curled hair wreathed by oak leaves gives the impression that this helmet was meant to evoke the appearance of an ancient hero, perhaps a Roman emperor or mythological character. The crown of leaves referencing the oak ("rovere" in Italian) might mean that this helmet was made for a member of the della Rovere family, dukes of Urbino.
