The Kiss
by Edvard Munch (1863 - 1944)

Munch's work is driven by themes of all kinds: love and death, sex and anxiety, jealousy, insanity, depression and a view of women that too often seems inspired by fear and suspicion. Mostly known for his emotionally unsettling style in works like The Scream and Melancholy, Munch explores the theme of love - true love - in this tender depiction of a man and woman clinging to each other, their faces made one in a moment of mutual adoration.
