Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar was born and raise in Compton, California. His dad was associated in a gang and because of that, he would have done anything to keep Kendrick safe. His parents didn’t have much money. Kendrick also has a younger sister names Kayla Duckworth. At the age of 13 years old, Kendrick Lamar was writing songs but has always been rapping since he can remember. To this day Kendrick is well known across the world.

This is Kendrick LamarSongkick.comGrowing up, one of the biggest challenges when Kendrick Lamar was younger was growing up in a neighbourhood that was associated with gangs and violence. Even though, Kendrick  wasn’t involved in a gang, this made it difficult to provide him with any security. Kendrick always said: “The opposite of love? Vice. Temptation. The negative influences that we have. The bad energy that comes around us and makes us do certain things. To me, it’s always been a war between the two.” At a young age, Kendrick Lamar saw something that no kid should ever see. He saw someone getting killed in front of his house. These life experiences have helped him write his music and helped others go through some struggles just like he did.

One of the biggest challenges for Kendrick, especially at school, was his stuttering problems. Even with this problem,  Kendrick was a smart kid and had his head on his shoulders. He was going through a lot but that didn’t stop him from getting straight A’s. He says: “ Whatever pressure I feel all comes from me, from within. I always was that person who was hard on myself and challenged myself no matter what I was doing, whether it was passing third grade or playing basketball.” His stuttering problem has never stopped him from being a good student to being a good rapper and he wants to inspire others to do the same.

Kendrick has always been surrounded by music since a young age. His mom named him after the popular songwriter Eddie Kendricks. He started his music career when hes was a teenager by recording his mix tapes under the name of K-dot. He signed his first label at the age of 16. Kendricks biggest idols are N.W.A that have the artists Easy-E, Ice cube, Dr.Dre DJ YElla and Mc Ren. He has interview them before and for him this was a dream come true. Kendrick received 135 award nominations and won close to 45 awards like teen choice awards, Grammy’s, youtube awards, MTV awards and more. One of his biggest hits was Humble, it was number 1 for a week  on the countdown.

Kendrick Lamar is my hero because he was listed among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016 by Time Magazine. He’s also a hero because he came from having a difficult upbringing, struggling with money, his stutter problem but he continued to pursue his love for music. “Tried to make you mine, tried to make sometime, but I ain’t got the time or the patience to stop and wait in line.” Kendrick Lamar inspires other to be like him, to not give up, keep trying and to always reach your goals. If Kendrick Lamar could give any tips to young rappers he would say to not let the game change you and be yourself, no matter what. Even if you have problems to keep trying to achieve your goals.
