A definition of a hero to me is a person who is positive and inspires people. A hero is someone who helps others in need. My hero is Lauryn Hill. Lauryn Hill is a very talented woman. I think she is the best music artist. I love her music because it’s so real. She doesn’t pretend to be someone else like a lot of other artists. She is true to herself. A lot of artists have good music but what they are saying in their music are usually lies, made-up stories, or someone else’s story.

Lauryn Hill inspires me a lot. When I listen to her music, I’m in another world. It’s like she knows me and she’s talking to me. Lauryn Hill has a strong presence. She’s very smart. I could listen to her music everyday and never get tired of it. She’s very original, creative, and brings meaning to music.

Lauryn Hill was born in 1975 in New Jersey. In 1987, when Lauryn was 12, she performed at a place in Harlem called “Amateur Night at the Apollo.” When she performed she was booed because the audience couldn’t hear her, but she continued and someone instructed her to put the microphone closer to her mouth. After that the audience applauded and cheered her on. Now Lauryn is an Apollo legend. If first Lauryn doesn’t succeed, she tries and tries again. She doesn’t give up easily. It doesn't matter if someone doesn’t like you or what you do; that’s their opinion. That’s what I like about Lauryn. She does what she wants to do. She doesn’t worry about what people think of her. That’s why she’s so creative.

There are three songs I really like. One is called " Every Ghetto, Every City." In this song it says "My mother always thought I'd be a star, but way before my record deal, the streets that nurtured Lauryn Hill, made sure that I'd never go too far." To me this means your families are there for you. The other song I like is called " The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." It's really not a song, it's more like an introduction. I like the part that says "And every time I try to be, what someone has thought of me, so caught up, I wasn't able to achieve." This song made me think that you don't have to be what other people want you to be or become what people think of you. Do what you want to do, so that you can achieve many things and enjoy doing it. Another song I like is called "Everything is Everything." This is my favorite song. I like the chorus part. It goes like this, "Everything is everything, what is meant to be, will be, after winter, must come spring, change, it comes eventually." This song explains itself. It means things that are meant to be will happen. It just takes time.

Her lyrics are so deep and touching. Her words make you think. It makes you think, "Hey, why worry what you think of me, if you do nothing for me. Let me be me and do my own thing." Lauryn Hill is a great rapper, singer, and actor, a mother of two, a role model, and a leader. She’s all these great things because she’s real with her work. She does what she has to do and stays positive through it all. That’s why Lauryn Hill is my hero.
