Mr Lee Kuan Yew

by K.A.Z from SINGAPORE

We have come across many people in our lives and we might have admire them. For us, our special hero is one who have lots of self-confidence. He is not a superman or a batman, he is none other than Singapore's Senior Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Born on 16 Septemeber 1923 in Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew was born in a well educated background. He first studied in Telok Kurau English School for 6 years, another 3 years in Raffles Institution. A year passed in Raffles College, 2 years in Cambridge Universtiy in England. He also studied law at Middle Temple in the year 1946 to 1950.

There are several things he has achieved. Firstly, he practised as a lawyer and was the honorary legal adviser to many trade unions in early 50s to late 50s. HE was also the founder member & Secretary-General of People's Action Party(PAP). In 1955, he was first elected in Tanjong Pagar and continously represented Tanjong Pagar. He also became a Prime Minister in 1959 and continued as Prime Minister after PAP won the elections until 1991.

There are lots of things that he has crossed. The First hurdle that he crossed was fighting for the independence for Singapore. Without him, we think that Singapore will not be such as Democratic country as it is now.

The reason for we liking him is that he is takes high risk on the decision and what ever he takes it will able correct. He is also a man with self-esteem.

Other Internet research on Mr. Lee Kuan Yew discusses human rights issues in Singapore. While Mr. Lee Kuan Yew has done great things to make Singapore an independent country, free from colonial rule, there are those who question his committment to freedom of speech and information. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew is so loved in his country that it may be a time to remember the rights of individuals in a democracy to hold differing opinions.
